Making the most of nature's bounty

We moved into a new/old property about 6 months ago which is surrounded by some lovely native bush including a few big old Nikau palms (picutured). I have used the fronds previously to make some long boat shaped containers but have discovered on closer inspection that the base of the frond which is often left on the tree has some amazing characteristics. The wood is extremely hard but very light. And, importantly for me it has lots of interesting holes and imperfections - perfect bases for my wire sculptures!
